| Moulded elegance of shapes, subtle and sleek |
Art Deco is a decorative style emerging in the 1930's from French origins and inspired by a Neo Classical influence.
|
Art Deco furniture features simple streamlined forms, sleek lines, geometric shapes and arcs.
|
AIt is the skill of this era's craftsmen that melds these elements together using subtle, sleek lines. To me, simply the joining of individual, distinctive shapes together so that one element still stands alone, in-situ, but with the others, complimenting one another.
|
The shapes have a moulded elegance, sometimes with motifs added as finishing features.
|
The Art Deco home frequently uses large rounded shaped walls. Quite often the end of walls and structures will be reeded and grooved in appearance to soften while maintaining a strong, heavy, structural look.
Tiles on floors are often layered to give a rounded effect and appearance and to accentuate the shape of the walls. Frequently, curved internal walls are added for continuity of feel.
Light fittings, rounded and distinctive, are a very important feature in an Art Deco/Neo Classical home.
The extensive use of marble stone, chrome and black colour are generally requirements in a Deco home.
Art Deco furniture design is modernism in its earliest form.

based on my vision, inspiration and
design of furniture and period rooms
and homes.

| Art Deco / Neo Classical Furniture |

|
Originating in the late 18th Century, Neo Classical design is inspired by the architecture of Ancient Greece and Rome. Neo Classical furniture is characterised by restrained, symmetrical design and tends to be rectangular. |
