| Furniture fit for a King |
Georgian furniture was influenced by the preferences of the three King George's of England and is larger in size with flat,
plain areas. It holds a feeling of strong, heavy,
clean mass of space but then highlighted with vertical reeds and flutes to soften and enhance the look.
Quite often, simple turning of timber and slight tapering with minimal fine detail is used on legs.
Claw and ball feet are often used.
|
Scrolls highlight important parts of the piece, finishing it off and dressing it with a scroll or capping.
|
Very fine, heavily detailed areas using saw cuts or lots of fine carvings are used.
These simple but repetitive patterns were added to build detail around edges,
bulking the appearance of the piece in heavy grandeur.
|
A Georgian room has a heavy, bold, grand look.
Quite often, tapered pillars feature and can be used as entrance to a room in the doorways - A statuesque statement!
|
A clean, open feeling exists throughout, but punctuated by large statement pieces. These pieces, while bold and having presence, are graceful in there own way.
|
There are always fine highlights around edging to emphasize a class difference and a preference for bolder furniture,
rather than the intricate fine detail enfolding the furniture favoured by the French Parisian artisans.

based on my vision, inspiration and
design of furniture and period rooms
and homes.
